What we confess about God, his Word, and his salvation.
Bakı Presviterian Cəmiyyəti stands in the historic Protestant and Reformed tradition. We affirm the great truths of Scripture that have been confessed by Christians throughout the centuries. Below is a summary of what we believe.
With Christians across the world, we believe in the good news message of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, lived in perfect obedience to God's law, died to receive God's punishment for our sins, was buried, on the third day rose again from the dead, and then ascended into heaven and sat down at the right hand of the Father, where God exalted him as Lord over all the world.
In light of this, God calls all people everywhere to repent and submit to Jesus Christ as Lord before he returns to judge the living and the dead.
We believe the Bible is the written word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts. The Bible is the revelation of God's truth and is infallible and authoritative in all matters of faith and practice.
As a church in the Protestant tradition, we submit to the Christian Scriptures as our final authority for faith and practice, believing them to be infallible and inerrant, not only in the truths that they affirm but also in their very words.
We believe in the Holy Trinity. There is one God, who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three persons are the same in substance and all co-equal, co-eternal, and co-essential.
God created Adam and Eve in his image and good. But they fell into a state of sin. As a result, all people are sinners and totally unable to save themselves from God's displeasure, except by His mercy.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who through his perfect life, sacrificial death, and triumphant resurrection atoned for the sins of all who will trust in him and reconciled them eternally to God.
We believe that salvation is by God alone as He sovereignly chooses those He will save. We believe His choice is based on His grace, not on any human individual merit or foreseen faith. He saves through Jesus Christ in the Old and New Testaments.
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Triune God. He indwells God's people and gives them the strength and wisdom to trust Christ and follow Him.
The Bible is the unified story of God's unfolding salvation throughout history. We believe that God is gracious and faithful to his people as individuals, but also as families in successive generations according to his covenant promises.
We believe that Jesus will return bodily and visibly. He will judge all mankind and receive His people into his eternal kingdom.
We believe that all aspects of our lives are to be lived under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We live to glorify God and enjoy him forever.
With Christian churches throughout history, we affirm these ancient creeds as summary statements of essential Christian belief concerning God and his gospel:
As a congregation of the International Presbyterian Church, our elders hold to one of the following sets of confessional standards. We believe these confessions best contain the system of doctrine taught in the Holy Scriptures.
